During a socially tumultuous time in the nation's history, Patrick O'Guinn studied Sociology at San Jose University under extraordinarily gifted, brilliant, and visionary-thinking professors who created a lifelong awareness of the critical role "actual life experiences" play in your individual expressions of freedom while navigating through
life's evolving challenges.
Early in his own college teaching career, O'Guinn taught Introduction to Sociology to community college adult learners. He continued to build on and share those same forward-thinking practices that had influenced him as a first-generation college student years before. O'Guinn began to receive concrete feedback about how his experiential teaching approach had positively influenced student lives and careers.
After re-examining her goals and choices from a different perspective, a nurse taking O'Guinn's course for self-enrichment decided to retire from her nursing career and spend more time with her recently retired husband. It was their ultimate goal to travel and explore other life interests. O'Guinn celebrated her desire for change, courageous risk-taking, and commitment to taking control of her own life's happiness.
